How to Remove Liquid Makeup Stains from Your Carpet

Liquid foundation makeup is great to hide flaws or enhance your natural beauty. However, there is nothing attractive about makeup stains in your carpeting. Read on to learn how to remove these stubborn spots and have people looking at you, and not your carpet stains.

Before you tackle the problem, review the care instructions from your carpet manufacturer or test the cleaning solution in a hidden area before you proceed. If the dye in the fiber fades or changes colors, try a different method.

Supplies

There are a few items you want to make sure you have on hand to take care of any mishaps on your carpeting as soon as they occur. These include:

• Cleaning Cloth
• Dull Knife or Spoon
• Cleaning Solvent
• Clean Towel 
• White Vinegar 
• Paper Towels
•  

Steps to Remove Liquid Makeup from Synthetic or Wool Carpet

Cleaning Method One

1. APPLY a dry cleaning solvent onto a damp towel 
2. BLOT don't rub 
3. REPEAT solvent application as above (do not apply solvent directly to carpet)
4. BLOT don't rub 
5. APPLY water with a damp towel 
6. BLOT to finish with a weighted pad of paper towels

If your results are less than satisfactory using Method One, move on to Method Two.

Cleaning Method Two

1. SCRAPE OR BLOT up excess foundation with a dull knife or spoon 
2. APPLY detergent solution onto a damp towel 
3. BLOT don't rub 
4. APPLY white vinegar (undiluted) using a damp towel 
5. BLOT don't rub 
6. APPLY water with a damp sponge 
7. BLOT to finish with a weighted pad of paper towels

Long-wearing liquid foundation products claiming 12 to 24 hours of wear prove difficult to remove from carpet fibers, and require stronger chemicals for treatment.
