  1. APPLY a dry cleaning solvent onto a damp towel
  2. BLOT don't rub
  3. REPEAT solvent application as above-do not apply directly to carpet
  4. BLOT don't rub
  5. APPLY water with damp towel
  6. BLOT to finish with a weighted pad of paper towels

Cleaning Steps

  1. FIRST: Prevent people or pets from walking on the butter or shortening stain. Place a marker such as a book or a container, a chair or small table over or next to the stain area to prevent walking onto it while you gather the cleaning supplies.
  2. SECOND: Scrape off as much as possible. Do this very gently, so as not to rub any more of the grease into the carpet. Use the side of a butter knife to do this.
  3. THIRD: Pretest the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous spot of carpet to ensure it does not discolor or damage the carpet.
  4. FOURTH: Leave for up to half an hour to soak up the butter or shortening.
  5. FIFTH: When the carpet is dry, vacuum to restore the texture.
